Loney Dear

Heute hat Emil Geburtstag, besser bekannt als Loney Dear. Ein zeitgenössischer Komponist und Sänger aus Schweden, den man durchaus als musikalische, große Liebe unserer vergangenen Jahre zählen darf. Oft haben wir ihn durchs Dorf getrieben und ich werde auch nicht aufgeben, dies weiterhin zu tun, da seine Musik an Größe und Klasse eher gewinnt als verliert. Nils Landgren, ein Posaunist und internationale Jazzgröße, sagte mir einmal, nach Emils Auftritt in Kaltern, dass es allemal eine Frage der Zeit wäre, bis Emils künstlerische Güte in der Breite wahrgenommen würde. Ich sagte ihm daraufhin, dass ich es aber schade fände, wenn sein Schicksal später mit dem von Vincent van Gogh zu vergleichen wäre.

Peter Gabriel entdeckte Emil 2017 auf einem innereuropäischen Flug. Er verliebte sich sofort in seine Musik und holte ihn auf sein Label “Realworld”. So klein ist die Welt, wir mussten dem zustimmen und haben das Emil zuliebe auch gerne getan, obwohl wir damals mit Haldern Pop Recordings bereits einen Vertrag für das Loney Dear Album hatten. Jetzt sollte man wissen, dass Haldern Pop auch aus dem wahnwitzigen Wunsch erschaffen wurde, ihn, nämlich Peter Gabriel, mal im Lindendorf auf die Bühne zu bitten. Seine Musik war, damals wie heute, eine große Motivation für unser „fantastisches Himmelfahrtskomando Haldern Pop“. Es schließt sich der Kreis, wenn die Richtung stimmt.

Loney Dears kommendes Album ist so gut wie fertig und nach einem ersten Hören dachte ich an die asketische Schönheit von alpinen Flechten im Sonnenlicht, reduziert, typisch und mit einem Hauch von atmosphärischen Süßlichkeiten. Diese Platte drängt sich nicht auf durch hämmernde Struktur und üppige Instrumentierung. Eine zarte Sammlung von Tönen bettet seine Stimme zu großem Glanz. Das Ganze wirkt sehr skizzenhaft und jeder kann es aufblasen, mit Pauken und Trompeten oder einfach vorbei gleiten lassen. Ein bisschen wie eine Joghurtkultur zur individuellen Veredelung. Nach mehrmaligem Hören bin ich überzeugter denn je, es wird eine wertvolle und großartige Platte.

Ihr sollt wissen, dass sich unsere Eigenart nicht von Prinzipien in die Ecke drängen läßt, und das Kind in uns erübrigt das LSD.

Catastrophe aus Paris, ein bisschen Musical, aber es wirkt inszeniert von David Byrne und Frank Zappa, beste, tanzbare Unterhaltung.

Loney Dear

Today is the birthday of Emil, better known as Loney Dear. A contemporary composer and singer from Sweden, who can be considered as our great musical love of the past years. Many times we have chased him through the village and I will not give up to continue doing so, because his music is growing in size and class rather than losing. Nils Landgren, a trombonist and great figure in international jazz, once told me, after Emil’s performance in Kaltern, that it’s only a question of time until Emil’s artistic goodness will be recognized at a wider scale. I replied that it would be a shame if his fate were to be compared with that of Vincent van Gogh later on.

Peter Gabriel discovered Emil in 2017 on a flight within Europe. He immediately fell in love with his music and brought him to his label “Realworld”. Is’s a small world, we had to agree to this and we did it gladly for Emil’s sake, although we already had a contract with Haldern Pop Recordings for the Loney Dear album at that time. You should know that Haldern Pop was also created out of the crazy desire to someday welcome him, namely Peter Gabriel, to the stage in our “Lindendorf” (linden village). His music was, then as now, a great motivation for our “fantastic endeavour Haldern Pop”. Everything comes full circle, if the direction is the right one.

Now, Loney Dear’s upcoming album is almost finished and after a first listening, I thought of the ascetic beauty of alpine lichen in sunlight, reduced, typical and with a touch of atmospheric sweetness. This record does not impose itself through hammering structure and lush instrumentation. A delicate collection of tones beds his voice to great splendour. The whole thing seems like a sketch and anyone can blow it up, with timpani and trumpets or just let it slide by. A bit like a yoghurt culture for individual refinement. After listening to it several times I am more and more convinced that it will be a precious and grandiose record.

I want you all to know that our idiosyncrasy cannot be pushed into a corner by principles, and the child in us makes the LSD unnecessary.
